Re: Program policies and procedures

Welcome back! I hope you had a pleasant summer.

As department chair, I supervise all departmental operations and faculty for philosophy, religion, and humanities, and I report to the Dean of Arts and Humanities, Lyman Grant. Please take a moment to review the following guidelines for departmental operations.

Communication

All departmental communication will be via email and the administrative webpage.

  1. My email address is mdaude@austincc.edu. I check email several times a day, every day (except Saturdays!), and I generally respond quickly. You are welcome to email me regarding program issues, or you may call my office (223-3012, but email is generally quicker). My administrative office hours will be posted on the program administrative web.

  2. The administrative website for our program is http://philadmin.constantinformation.com. I will post announcements, meeting schedules, and agendas on this site. I hope you will find this website a useful reference for departmental policies and procedures, the course master syllabi, eStaffing schedules, minutes, etc. Be sure to visit the “Information Map” for a variety of departmental resources and other useful links. There are some technical resources available on the administrative web, including “how-to's” regarding various technical matters (such as checking your ACC email from home, using MS Outlook to organize email, etc.). If there is a topic you would like me to address, please let me know, and I’ll do my best.

  3. I will use email for all departmental memos (no paper!). I will generally use your ACC email address, and you should be aware that some college communications go only to ACC addresses. You are assigned an ACC email account and a voicemail box at employment. If you do not know how to access your ACC email address or voicemail, contact the ACCNet Help Desk online or at 223-HELP. The Help desk can also assist you in forwarding your ACC email to another address.

Faculty Responsibilities

Please review the Faculty Responsibilities page, but here are a couple of important highlights:

  1. Please allow only students who are officially enrolled and appear on the course roster to attend class.

  2. Send students to my "Problem Resolution Request" page to lodge complaints or ask for help concerning a problem. For Course limit override requests, send students to my "Course Limit Override" page. (Although I value your input about overrides, professors do not have the authority to approve course limit overrides. Please avoid giving students the impression that you can approve requests for overrides.)

  3. Please send me a copy of your syllabi for the current semester (preferably electronically; a link to an online syllabus is sufficient)

Departmental Faculty Orientation

Visit the department's online Faculty Orientation for an overview of college and department policies and procedures. (You may submit a form at the end of the orientation page to earn one hour of professional development credit for completing the Faculty Orientation.)

Thank you for your many contributions to the department. I am particularly grateful for your support in my work as department chair. If there is any way I can return that support, please let me know.

Have a great semester!
